The New Beginnings Core Programme
🦋 The Core Programme 🦋
A 24-week journey of understanding, healing, and hope. Together, we create a safe, confidential space where parents can explore their stories, connect with others, and build stronger futures for themselves and their children.
Weekly Group Sessions
At the heart of the programme are our weekly group sessions, where parents come together to share their journeys and hear the lived experiences of others navigating the child protection process.
Story of Your Life Book & App
A reflective workbook and companion app designed to support parents through the New Beginnings programme. Packed with animations, real parent stories, audio options and guided exercises, it helps parents explore who they are, understand their journey, and stay connected to each week’s learning.
Parental Representation
We know children’s safety and wellbeing are crucial, but we also believe parents deserve to be heard. Every parent carries their own story, shaped by their childhood and life experiences.
1:1 Keywork
Alongside group sessions, parents receive tailored one-to-one support designed to help them make sense of their experiences and plan for the future.
Video Interaction Guidance (ViG)
Video Interaction Guidance is a strength-based, evidence-backed approach that focuses on what’s going right between parents and children.
Weekly Group Sessions
Our weekly group sessions run over 24 weeks and bring together parents who are navigating, or have recently navigated, the child protection process.
In a trauma-informed, non-judgemental space, facilitators and parents explore topics such as relationships, resilience, communication, parenting under stress, and the impact of childhood experiences.
Each week builds on the last, giving parents the chance to reflect, ask questions, share wins and setbacks, and realise they are not alone. Many parents tell us this is the first space where they have felt truly listened to and understood.
Our latest word cloud represents the real words of mums and dads who completed the most recent cohort.
Parental Representation
We know children’s safety and wellbeing are crucial, but we also believe parents deserve to be heard within the systems that make decisions about their families.
Our practitioners walk alongside parents with honesty, transparency and respect. We help them understand professional language, prepare for meetings and court hearings, and think through how to share their story safely and clearly.
By supporting the adults of today, we create stronger foundations for the adults of tomorrow. Parents tell us that having someone “in their corner” changes how they show up, how confident they feel, and how able they are to stay engaged with professionals.
1:1 Keywork
Alongside the group, each parent is linked with a keyworker who offers personalised one-to-one support. This is a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and plan realistic next steps.
Keywork may include tools such as the Adult Attachment Interview, genograms and timelines, helping parents explore how their own history shapes the way they parent today.
Together, parents and keyworkers look at patterns, strengths, and areas for change, always with the aim of improving safety and relationships for children.
Listen to this podcast about timelines and how they help.
Video Interaction Guidance (ViG)
Video Interaction Guidance is a strengths-based, evidence-backed approach that focuses on what is already going well between parents and children.
Using short video clips of everyday interactions, practitioners and parents sit together and highlight “better-than-good” moments of attunement, warmth and shared joy.
ViG builds confidence and connection, and is accredited for use within the court process. Parents often say it helps them see themselves through their child’s eyes — and recognise the positives they didn’t know were there.
